New Plein Air Season
End of wintering.
Spring has always felt like the true beginning of the year for me. Not the calendar turning over in January, but this moment, when the light begins to return, the air softens, and nature slowly wakes up. This particular spring feels even more significant because I’ve spent the past few months truly wintering in every sense of the word.
Inspired by Katherine May’s beautiful reflections on the necessity of slowing down, I allowed myself, for once, to fully embrace the season. I gave myself permission to rest, to withdraw a little, to stop pushing and just be for a moment.
After my health took me down an unexpected road at the end of last summer, it became impossible to ignore my body’s requests for a pause. Time to breathe, to reflect and to be. The constant rain seemed to conspire with me, encouraging me to stay indoors, to hibernate, and to find contentment in smaller, quieter things.
My home and my studio became a comforting sanctuary to enjoy these cold wet months. Giving my body time to adjust to new limits and my mind to wander, to consider what I wanted to include in this next chapter and what I wanted to leave behind as winter draws to a close.
